More About Us

Literacy Movement 4 More (LM4M) , Bob Case Academy: Bridge to Calculus (BtC), local educators, non-profit and community members in Oaxaca are coming together to make this experience a lasting one. Those interested can work with our five-year goal is to foster a deep understanding of culture through the development of thoughtful curricula by providing immersive and interactive experiences. Yarima and Luis of Mundo Maya Tours are licensed bilingual (Spanish and English) Mexican tour guides who have led cultural and educational  expeditions for more than 25 years (since 1997), around México, and other countries in Central and South America. We are proud to have them be our guides for this week-long exploration.

We hope that by learning from each other, creating an inclusive, collaborative environment we can empower individuals and communities to authentically share experiences that can address some of the great divides in our world today. Indigenous communities, in particular, have a lot to showcase in terms of working and being a community. We hope to learn from each other and walk a path together to address some of our societal challenges through a collaborative and yet academic lens and share educational goals and experiences.

In this inaugural excursion we will have a weeklong (March 2-9, 2024) immersive retreat in Oaxaca, where participants will leverage their personal assets and experiences and engage in round-table style talks, visits to geographic sites, and interactive sessions with community members and local artisans to learn about the local culture, art, and collective values. Outcomes will consist of written and oral records documenting experiences and learnings that will directly contribute to our curriculum-creation initiative.

Ultimately, our vision is concentrated on a society which wholeheartedly embraces the connective tissue we share as citizens of a multicultural world and amplifies productive conversations between different countries, cultures, people, ideologies, and generations..
